The Challenge

DentalXchange, a leading dental claims clearinghouse backed by KKR, processed millions of insurance transactions across fragmented legacy systems — SQL Server, SSIS packages, and .NET applications. Billing cycles ran 10–20 days, operational reporting depended on brittle pipelines, and there was no unified view of claims, provider, and financial data.

The Approach

Blue Orange designed and built a unified data platform on Databricks Lakehouse, consolidating data from SQL Server, Postgres, and NetSuite into a single source of truth. The team implemented medallion architecture with Delta Lake, deployed Unity Catalog for governance, and established Master Data Management to standardize provider and payer records across the organization.

The Challenge

Core Spaces, a leading student housing developer managing 65+ properties and 113,000+ leases, had built an initial Databricks environment with 50+ sequential DLT pipelines processing 100,000+ rows hourly. While functional, the architecture was over-segmented — driving up compute costs, limiting parallelism, and making pipeline maintenance complex. Separately, FP&A reporting across Yardi and financial systems remained manual and disconnected.

The Approach

Blue Orange conducted a comprehensive technical assessment of Core Spaces' Databricks environment, benchmarking cost and performance in a parallel catalog to safely prove optimizations without touching production. The team consolidated 50+ per-table pipelines into a single unified pipeline, restructured the medallion architecture, and implemented SCD Type II processing with DLT limited to the Bronze layer and SQL/Python notebooks for Silver and Gold. Following the optimization work, Blue Orange extended the engagement to build FP&A and debt reporting dashboards in Power BI connected to Databricks SQL Warehouses.
